Bree take Basketball County Round in close affair

It was as close as it gets in the Wexford Macra Basketball final with Bree Macra taking the title from Cushinstown on the smallest of margins in Good Counsel, New Ross. Both sides gave it there all and the lead changed hands many times before Bree took the contest with a basket as the whistle sounded. Well done to both teams and thank you to Cushinstown for hosting and to Good Counsel for the use of their facilities.

Cushinstown are County Question Time Champs!

There was a great turn out at the Wexford Macra Question Time Final, hosted by Cushinstown Macra in the Horse and Hound, Ballinaboola on Friday, 20th of February. Teams from the Askamore, Bree and Cushinstown clubs took part in a bid to win the county quiz title and a place at the National Finals to be held on February 28th. It was a close contest throughout with scores level on many occasions. Going into the last round just one mark separated the first two teams, with Bree holding the slight advantage. It was the last round that made the difference and with a fine finish Cushinstown's third team of Colm Ryan, James Forrestal, James Power and John Flood took the title. The winning team now progress to the Kerrygold Club Question Time National Final, to be held in Drogheda on the 28th of February.

Bree take County 5-a-side Soccer Title

There was strong competition at the recent Wexford Macra 5-a-side Soccer finals, held in St. Joseph's Kilmuckridge and hosted by Blackwater Macra na Feirme. All of the active Macra clubs in the county were represented with a round-robin competition taking place. The hosts, Blackwater Macra, got off to a strong start beating a strong Cushinstown team before also seeing off the challenge from Askamore Macra. The Bree team took the hard route to the final, coming from behind in both their first round matches before beating Askamore and Cushinstown. The title contest was set for a match between Bree and Blackwater with Askamore and Cushinstown battling for third place. The third place playoff was a quick and even performance for the first half before Askamore emerged as the winners. In the final both Blackwater and Bree were evenly matched with goals coming from both sides, Blackwater scoring in the final minute to draw level at full time. During extra time the battle continued before Shane Doyle from Bree tapped in to give his side the win. The Bree team now go through to the NDC National Finals, being held in Gormanstown, Meath on the 1st of March.
